FilmTec was originally part of Dow's water business and became part of DuPont Water Solutions after the DowDuPont reorganisation. Its naming follows two main lines, BW30 (brackish water) and SW30 (seawater), with suffixes indicating area, feed spacer and function: -400 for 400 ft², /34 for a 34 mil feed spacer, HR for high rejection, LE for low energy, XLE for extra low energy, FR for fouling resistant, and i for the iLEC end connection.
DuPont's official design software, WAVE, covers RO, NF, UF and ion exchange. Its models are complete and its reports are standardised, which makes it the default tool for calculation reports at many engineering companies. Its limitation is equally clear: it can calculate only DuPont's own membranes.

How to select
- Low energy priority: BW30HRLE-440 (99.3% rejection, low operating pressure); where water quality requirements are higher, use BW30HR-440 (99.7%).
- Surface water and reuse: BW30FR-400/34, whose 34 mil feed spacer resists fouling and plugging, and performs better with UF pretreatment.
- High-salinity brackish water: the BW30XHR PRO series, at 99.8% rejection, at the cost of higher operating pressure.
- Seawater: SW30HRLE where energy consumption is the priority, SW30XHR where permeate quality is the priority.
DuPont keeps the existing model naming across the range; for parameters, refer to the datasheet of the corresponding version. An existing WAVE design can be rebuilt on this site and compared under the same conditions with other brands held here.

FAQ
How do DuPont RO membranes relate to Dow membranes?
The FilmTec brand originally belonged to Dow's water business. After the 2019 DowDuPont reorganisation it became part of DuPont Water & Protection, with the product line continued and model names largely unchanged.
What is the difference between BW30-400 and BW30 PRO-400?
Both are 400 ft² brackish water membranes. The PRO series is optimised for consistency of rejection and flux; for parameters, refer to the datasheet of the corresponding version.
Can DuPont WAVE calculate only DuPont membranes?
Yes. WAVE contains DuPont's own membrane parameter library and cannot calculate elements of other brands directly. Multi-brand comparison requires a cross-brand tool or separate models.
How do HRLE and XLE differ?
HRLE is High Rejection Low Energy: rejection comes first, with low energy consumption as well. XLE is Extra Low Energy: lower operating pressure but slightly lower rejection. Choose HRLE for high water quality requirements and XLE where energy consumption is the priority.
