CSM reverse osmosis membrane models and element selection

CSM is a long-established Korean membrane manufacturer. This site lists 89 elements, covering the full RE brackish water series, NE nanofiltration and 16-inch large elements.

89 elements · Data source: manufacturer technical manuals, brochures and official design software test data

The CSM model system takes RE (Reverse Osmosis Element) as the brackish water mainstay and NE for nanofiltration. Suffixes distinguish positioning: -BE is the standard type (99.7%), -BLR/-BLN are low energy and medium rejection, -BLF is fouling resistant, -UL is ultra-low pressure, -FEn/-FLR are the high rejection and low fouling versions, and -CE is the low-rejection economy model.

CSM has two distinguishing features. First, it offers 16-inch elements (RE16040, about 1600 ft² per element), suited to large systems for reducing the number of pressure vessels. Second, its nanofiltration range includes the NE8040 series, divided into several models by rejection and flux.

Note: the element library on this site does not currently include CSM seawater elements; for seawater projects refer to the manufacturer's latest datasheet.

Listed on this site:89 membrane elements of this brand, of which 47 are 8040 format, 0 seawater elements and 36 nanofiltration elements (including large formats such as 16-inch). Parameters have been consolidated on a uniform basis and can be used for comparison under identical conditions and for verifying alternative models.

Distribution of test pressure and stabilised salt rejection for the CSM element library
Distribution of the 89 RO elements of this brand in the library: test pressure 75~800 psi, stabilised salt rejection 98%~99.8%. Low-pressure brackish water elements on the left, high-pressure seawater elements on the right, and rejection rises towards the top. For element selection, first locate the zone that applies, then compare area and pressure drop among models in that zone.

Representative models and parameters

The table below lists representative 8040 format models of this brand in the element library (membrane area per element 365–510 ft²), sorted from largest to smallest area; this format has 47 elements in total. The full model list can be filtered by brand in the design tool.

How to select

CSM's official design tool is CSM Pro. Note that CSM project files have no public portable format; migrating to another software requires re-entering the water quality and array. This site includes 89 CSM elements that can be modelled directly.

FAQ

Which country is CSM's reverse osmosis membrane from?

CSM of South Korea, one of the earlier membrane manufacturers in Korea; products cover brackish water and nanofiltration.

What is the difference between the NE and RE series?

RE is a reverse osmosis membrane with high rejection (usually above 99%); NE is a nanofiltration membrane that selectively removes divalent ions and organics while allowing part of the monovalent ions to pass.

Does CSM offer 16-inch membrane elements?

Yes, the RE16040 series has about 1600 ft² per element and suits large systems by reducing the number of pressure vessels and piping runs.

How are CSM membrane parameters imported into other design software?

CSM has no public portable project file format; water quality, array and element parameters usually have to be entered manually, or the 89 CSM elements built into this site can be used directly.
